58 views12 pages

Document Summary

Golgi apparatus: responsible for packaging proteins from the rough er into membrane bound vesicles. Ribosomes: dense granules of rna + protein, responsible for manufacturing proteins from amino acids under the control of the cell"s dna, 2 types of ribosomes in a cell. Lysosome: type of storage vesicle produced by the golgi apparatus, act as the digestive system of the cell. Contain enzymes used to destroy damaged organelles, kill bacteria, + break down other kinds of biomolecules. Mitochondrion: most of the body"s atp is generated. Atp = primary cellular mechanism for energy storage and transfer: # of mitochondria in the cell depends on the cell"s energy needs, can replicate themselves even if the cell is not undergoing division. Occurs when cell has inc. energy demand over period of time. Endoplasmic reticulum: continuation of the cell"s nuclear membrane, site for synthesis, storage, and transport of proteins and lipid molecules, 2 types of er. Rough / granular er= covered with rows of ribosomes.
