Document Summary

Physiology is the study of function in the living organisms, it is how out body systems function. External environment does not necessarily refer to only things outside of the body, as parts in out body are continuous with the external environment, ex. Digestive, respiratory, excretory systems, they are continuous and essentially a part of the external environment. Homeostasis is the maintenance of relatively stable/constant conditions in the internal environment. Every system in the body helps to maintain homeostasis except the reproductive system. To maintain homeostasis the body relies on 2 control systems: nervous system very fast, short duration, ex. The set point is what the feedback system functions around, ex. Body temperature, we want to maintain around 38 degrees. This set point is usually built into a control center, in most cases the set point and control center are build in together, in humans the set point for body temp is built into the hypothalamus (control center)
