Third world: subordinated to cold war logic, generally traditional dictatorships, varied and shifting economic systems, underdeveloped; poverty, sometimes lack basic needs. Economic: development in the third world, newly industrializing countries: brazil, russia, india, china, is the west still the best. Political: third wave of democracy since 1974, third wave as of 1989-1991. Strategic: collapse of ussr end of the second world, partial integration of china, but no new second world.
