Briish pm set up irst cabinet oice and established small group of personal advisors replaced friends/colleagues as advisors. Control over machinery of government: bureaucracy and procedures that follow pm has control to shape, alter, eliminate parts of machinery of government. Cabinet styles: tradiional pm and a small group of ministers, managing small departments / stafs, departmental. As government grew so did bureaucracy each minister serves own department with speciic dealings, run by a deputy minister, not a lot of departmental collaboraion: insituionalized. Not enough collaboraion so trudeau set to create a layer of organizaion above departmental lines. Organizaional change to ensure operaions are coherent. Cabinet commitees small groups of cabinet ministers. Role of pmo and pco as coordinaing bodies: pm centered. Prime minister"s oice: poliical advice to pm by staf appointed on parisan basis, funcions. Privy council oice (pco) coordinaion/implementaion: administraive advice to pm and cabinet by career public service oicials, headed by clerk of the privy council.
