Marxism largely discredited by realities of communism and soviet union, neo-marxists emerge in 20th century. Realities of communism were such that state represented abuse of power. Lack of respect for marx/engels work may be temporary because if globalization reducing poverty to a degree and the greater need for equality in the face of a widened rich/poor gap. Engels was also a factory owner, therefore a member of the bourgeoisie and a capitalist. Argument between two dialects who disagree on each other"s outlooks on society as a whole. Materialism sees the world in terms of opposites in a broad and general way. Process of sorting out the things which we could be reasonably sure were true from those that were false. Marx looked at american civil war and picked out an aristocracy that would lose the civil war and a rising industrial class and predicted correctly.
