Visual receptors: duplex threory (per eye) 120 million rods: operate at low intensity and sensitive to brightness, none found in the fovea, they only detect monochrome light. Example: if you look directly at a very weak light source, the fovea straight at it, therefore the rods can"t detect it. (per eye) 7 million cones: operate at higher intensities, insensitive for brightness, Rods and cones have visual pigments, they are photosensitive (breaks down when hit by light) Rods: rhodopsin, breaks down in to 2 other chemicals when hit by light and generate an action potential. Cones: each breaks down to specific wavelength lights. 30min and makes the eye even more sensitive (measure only by peripheral vision) Single cell recording: (read at home and write notes) Project spot of light on screen and move until output is maximum.
