Psychology 2015A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Eleanor Rosch, Psych, Dsm-5
Document Summary
We will select the item we rate as most typical is the item we think of when we think of that category. This is the basic model we go to. When i think of fruit i think of strawberries. Rosch says that people will be able to respond faster when they are working at the basic examples level because they just go with the most typical item. They say that experts might also be able to recall sub-ordinate (detailed) representations as fast as non experts can recall basic representations. A prototype is an item that serves as a template to represent members of its categories, e. g. , a chair has a flat surface in which someone sits on. Some people need more information to make a decision and some people need less. Knowledge is more readily available when the pathway has already been accessed. Basic information is the easiest and people assumed it would be the easiest to remember.
