Promote development of a healthy family system. Various interventions for children at each stage of the alc/drug use continuum: Become more aware of the child"s behavior. Discuss at-risk factors of alcohol and drug dependence and addiction. Break the no talk rule two common problems at this stage are overreaction and under reaction let the child describe how they felt about the situation. Communication and exploration of feelings about alc/drugs. Provide info about chemical dependency and at-risk factors. Focus- identify and communicate concerns and negative consequences of drug use. Focus- intensive outpatient counseling along with drug testing. Do"s and don"t"s of dealing with someone who has an alc/drug problem: deal with your emotions. Do: try and be calm/balanced/caring, express willingness to get help and resolve the problem, set boundaries and communicate your feelings.
