Alcohol is a significant factor in up to 90% of child abuse cases (neglect, violence, incest) Family organizes itself around the alcoholic"s drinking and drinking related. To maintain balance, family members disconnect/repress from their own feelings and distort their perceptions (give up their own sense of self) the family members happiness is related to the feelings of the alcoholic. Similar to post traumatic stress disorder (re-experiencing the trauma, psychic numbing, hyper vigilance, survivor guilt) Illusion of normalcy- this is normal and everyone goes through it. Super achievers or perfectionists (perfectionist and anxiety go hand in hand)
