Document Summary
Child development: an area of study devoted to understanding constancy and change from conception through adolescence. Child development is part of a larger field known as developmental science a study of all of the changes that we experience throughout a lifespan. Many factors influence development it takes a village to raise a child. Since transitioning to adult roles is becoming increasingly prolonged researchers have began studying a period of development called emerging adulthood from age 18 to 25. Theory: an integrated set of statements that describes, explains and predicts. Theories are important because they provide frameworks for our observations about children and give us meaning about what we see in children. Once you understand development you are in a better position to improve the welfare and treatment of children. There are 2 views on how children develop continuous or discontinuous. Continuous development: a process of gradually adding more of the same types of skills that were there to begin with.
