Document Summary
Self-concept clarity is the degree to which you view your self-concept to be stable and clear. The older you get the less you care what people think about you, and your self- concept clarity will increase over time. After a break up, we often see temporary decrease in self-concept clarity. Might go up when you get a job, might go down when you lose a job. When you self is determined by other people (collectivistic), some people have speculated that this may lead to reduced self-concept clarity. We change throughout our life, and this change slows down as we get older, but not that much. People vastly underestimated how much they would change in the next ten years at every age. Self-esteem movement was when regardless of if you failed or succeeded, people said "oh you"re fantastic, you"re really good at this!" This is problematic, as it leads to discrepancies between your self esteem and your abilities.
