Note the many factors that: promote fertility/conception, are barriers to fertility/conception. Conception is when sperm and egg meet and fertilization occurs. Conception occurs in the outer third of the fallopian tube. Cilia in the oviducts propel the conceptus towards the endometrium. Acrosome area of the sperm that secretes the enzyme hall hyaluronidase. Allows the sperm to swim towards the egg. Egg secretes a chemical which attracts the sperm to the egg. Sperm surround the egg and secrete the enzyme hyaluronidase. Hyaluronidase dissolves the egg"s gelatinous zona pellucida. One sperm is permitted to penetrate the egg. Once an egg is fertilized it is called a zygote. Time intercourse so it occurs around time of ovulation. Sperm live inside a woman"s body for up to 3-5 days.
