Document Summary
Need more light for stimulus to be detected. Rods can go down to 0 because there are no rods in the fovea. Tend to have a lot of rods feeding into a single bipolar cell, and then a group of bipolar cells feeding into a ganglion cell. If any given rod is responding minimally, as long as the surrounding cluster is also responding, you will get enough stimulus for the bipolar cell to fire. You do not need a lot of light for stimulus. What happens to someone when you put him or her in the dark and you watch them have (cid:498)dark adaptation(cid:499) the ability to detect light improves after you are in the dark for a period of time. Reflects what the cones are doing because they react quickly, but also shallowly. Cones are faster and adapt up to 10 minutes.
