Individual facts can be represented in the system as nodes. Links=relations between concepts: attributes of the higher order node are always true of lower order nodes. Animal is at top, and everything below is an animal. Bird is top, everything below it is related to bird. Everything below is true for what is above. Spreading activation: one node fires and is connected to another neuron, it spreads through out system.
