The social self: joining point between the individual and society, within our self-concept. Looking-glass self: social psychological concept that people"s self-concepts are shaped by an understanding of how others perceive them how i think others view me. 3 step process: we imagine how others see us, we image how others are judging us, we react accordingly and develop feelings about ourselves (i. e. pride, shame) We have lots of details about ourselves. We have little details about how others see us but we often forget about this. Self-awareness: psychological state of being aware of one"s characteristics, feelings and behaviours develops over time from around 18 months. Many animals also have a sense of self i. e. dolphins stopped in front of a mirror longer if they had a black spot on their nose.
