Characteristics of a good jury : must be representative of the community where the crime occurred, jury must resemble the community, 30-40yrs ago juries were mainly white males. Typical selection procedure: obtain list of people in community (e. g. , voter registration, census, phone book) Jury pool : randomly select a group of people from pool (e. g. , 100) Jury panel : each person on panel is sent a jury summons (court order to appear for jury duty) criminal offense to ignore jury summons.
