What is health psychology: focus on how biological, psychological, and social factors influence health and illness. Health psychologists try to: promote healthy living, prevent disease, examine psychological reactions to diagnosis of illness, examine how personality and attitudes influence health. Physical health depends on the interactions between biological, psychological, and social system factors. The study of every disease and health behaviour must include the individual, his/her body, and his/her environment as essential components of the overall system. Philosophical: understanding how suffering, disease, and illness affected by multiple levels of organization: from societal to molecular level. Practical: understanding the individuals subjective experience as important for accurate diagnosis, health outcomes, and care: important when we have to cope with situaitons. The degree to which people have to change and readjust their lives in response to an external event. Psychology is concerned on what causes stress and how people cope with it. Also applies to happy events: ex: getting married, starting a new job.
