Generally, more than one dimension of performance is rated. This article summarizes all the benefits of ratings to the organization. The organization can use these to determine where they need to improve. In the chart the scale is from 1-7 (1 meaning no impact) The model that murphy used at the end of their chapter is very good (box chart). The performance rating is a public statement (may not always be exactly what the rater believes). The performance judgment is what is in the raters head, what the rater really believes of the rate.
