Conservatives: were skeptical of capitalism but supported tradition, church, monarchy, etc. (ie: burke) Today in most of the world, the terms used are: Social democrats: ndp, socialist parties in europe: progressives, opposed to capitalism, but think the system can be improved incrementally by reform. Conservatives: harper, bush, american evangelicals: agree with neoliberals about the economy but are socially conservative. What americans call liberals the rest of the world calls social democrats . What americans call conservatives is a mixture of neoliberals & social conservatives.
