Structure and limitation needed to achieve group goals. Can occur in addition to or exclusive of individual practice. A special skill set required of a social worker who runs groups. Dependent on the type of group, purpose of group, membership, etc. Task groups: the purpose is to accomplish specific work or tasks. Treatment groups: the purpose is to meet the need of group members. Types of treatment groups- family or household groups, therapy groups, self-help or peer groups groups, self-help or peer groups. People coming together with similar problems or interests with the belief that by working together, they can each grow or change. May or may not include a social worker. Kinds of groups social workers are called to facilitate. Family meetings (child welfare, mental health, school social work)
