Keeping the family intact: the lived experience of sheltered homeless families. Ethnographic data was collected through participant observations and in-depth interviews with shelter guests/staff etc. Families came to this homeless shelter often after trying other options like living w friends, couch surfing etc. but faced conflicts like overcrowding/ roommate issues. Families often came to the emergency family shelter to be able to stay together as a family. Social dynamics of families varied, sometimes the shelter life made the families become closer, sometimes it started more fights (ex. Love and arranged marriage in india today: negotiating adulthood. Arranged marriage is still common even in indian youth even those that speak fluent english and know about global youth culture. Theory 1: modernization: collapse of arranged marriage and its replacement with western-style individual choice due to the embedding of individualism and romantic love in the global market system.
