Mechanism of social control to regulate humans thoughts and feelings. Looking at the recognized deviance in terms of societal norms. Formal responses of police, court system and jail officials. How all those front line workers understand and understand acts of deviance and criminality. In terms of a 911 call, the officials have to recognize the tone and voice of call to interpret the situation. In the past we understood criminal behavior as biological instinct. The early theorists and researchers they believed that criminal behavior aligned itself with the shape of one"s head, body type, size these were factors in which they believed made you more likely to be criminal. If you were feeble minded you were more likely to be criminal. We have moved forward and see that peoples social influence along with mental states are things in which determine if you will be criminal (no longer trait like approach but look at social factors)
