Document Summary

Review of theoretical perspective: structural functionalism (1950-1960s) Assumes that everything is in place for a reason and that each part is contributing to the whole for a reason. Looking at how men and women have complementary roles in and outside of the home: conflict theory. Believed that people were being exploited within the structural functionalism approach. Marx: symbolic interactionism (1960s-1970s)- similar to social phys. Responded to marx in a lot of ways and thought that he was very simplistic (division between bourgeoisie and proletariat didn"t explain all the multiple levels of complexity) Weber looks at historical analysis to see how society functions in the 1900s to the 2000s. Wanted to understand what capitalism was like historically and why they were like that. Verstan- to understand/ walk in the shoes of someone else. Micro level approach because wanted to understand individuals in society. The things that max weber does however is still doing research in fairly macro level.
