The reason why people are unequal different across each society. Social mobility change in position within the social hierarchy. People usually move horizontally, and remain in the same social group. Allows for little or no social change in social position. Is social stratification based on ascription or birth. Waste human potential, but are very orderly. Shaped lives in 4 ways: determines occupation, mandates you marry within your caste. 3: association between powerful underlying beliefs between each caste.
