Gender personal traits/social position that members of society attach to being male or female: in a hierarchy, where males are put ahead of females. Gender stratification unequal distribution of wealth, power & privilege between men &women: cultural patterns, time and place effect this, there tends to be more differences in categories than between the categories. Culture can define the two sexes very differently. We are socialized to certain behaviours depending on our gender. By comparing different cultures we see that what is feminine and masculine varies. Femininity and masculinity are mostly constructions of society. George murdock surveyed people, and found that the majority of people agree on gender roles. Patriarchy a form of social organisation in which males dominate females: tends to be found in some degree all over the world, considered an overall structure, harmful to women because it limits their talents/ambitions.
