Ethnocentrism: evaluating and judging another culture based on how it compares to your own, the belief that your cultural practices are superior, w. g. Introduced by edward sapir & benjamin lee whorf. Mores: formal rules of conduct within a group, taken much more seriously and are seen as essential to our core values. Insist on conformity to mores: more strictly enforced and generally codified, e. g. , the criminal code of canada, theft, rape, murder. Taboo: a norm so strongly engrained that even the thought of its violation brings us to convulsion, eating human flesh, having sex with parents/siblings (cannibalism, incest) Ideal culture: cultural values a majority of people identify with in a given culture: real culture: practices engaged in by the majority of people in a given society.
