Children may gain experiences for various reasons (i. e. natural disaster, foreign influence) They were separated from their parents and started to develop their own youth culture. There are no predominant patterns and children have separate experiences from adults. Accelerated with modern technology and social media. Unlike post-figurative parents cannot predict the future of their children. There is a decline in social norms and the period of education is extended as youth wait to find entry into the labour market and enter adulthood. 3 generations live together and children become copies of their parents. They contribute to the culture and do not question the culture. An example is the samoan islands, both males and females got full body tattoos as a rite of passage. Existed through most of human history: the youth question. This is at the most general level (b/w adulthood and childhood) Psychologists argue that adolescence is a biological stage while sociologists state that it is a social status.
