Lecture 5 - family life and parental influence. Children complying with the behaviours is very important. We know enough to provide recommendations to the u. s. government to tell people how to parent (i. e. post-natal care) and now we can tell parents how to parent their adolescents. The most common is low in demandingness and responsiveness while the least common is indulgent, with high responsiveness and do not demand much from the children. Permissive parenting is considered to be indulgent and indifferent parenting styles. Authoritarian parenting was dominant for a long period of time, but in the last century the authoritative parenting style has overtaken it. Personality and behavioural outcomes associated with parenting styles. Authoritative parenting is considered to be the gold standard of parenting. Indifferent is considered to be the worst style of parenting. 75% of people marry others who have similar parenting styles as them. Demonstrates the child being indulged by the parents and the parents enable the indulging.
