Place matters exposes you to certain physical environment, social environment, neighbors. When you live in disadvantaged/poor neighbourhoods things cost more. The extra costs associated with living in these poor neighbourhoods. Costs more to buy appliances, furniture, food, car, cash cheques. Having a voice and say in what may happens in your neighbourhood (community centers, places to meet) Lots of alcohol, tobacco, convenience stores, fast food, etc. (cluster in disadvantaged neighbourhoods) Lack of pollution (air, water and sound) Health is socially patterned based on ones neighbourhood. What children are exposed to will negatively effect poor health outcomes due to immune functioning, brain development.
