Theories are so broad so we cant directly test them we need to break it down into smalled pieces and those are called hypotheses (only 1 dependent variable) You must operationalize both variables (independent and dependent) To get data you could look, ask, etc. Mistake to say a research acts without preconceived ideas, assumptions, theories or presumptions of any kind. It is impossible to be completely objective. If p, then q p therefore q affirming the antecedent. If p, then q not q therefor not p denying the consequent. If p, then q therefore if p, then r chain argument. If p, then q if q therefore p error of affirming the consequent. If p, then q not p therefore not q error of denying the antecedent. You must ensure you have internal consistency in your theories when making these arguments.
