Typically: compare reconstituted families with intact" families. New social constructions must be built: new social roles and divisions of labour difficult. Presence of children: makes marriage even harder. Why: more people involved, children may be damaged from the divorce, children bitter with the situation (don"t want you to get remarried, communication with ex-spouses is unavoidable. Mythological views of reconstituted families: brady bunch was about a family that was mad up of two divorced families 6 kids total all. 3 from the mom side and 3 from the dad. At the end of every episode everything worked out. The point of the show was the marriage will solve everything: wicked stepmother, step-dad can not be that involved and just take the kid out, step-mom is the one who takes care of the kids. Complications of reconstituted families: having an ongoing relationship with absent parent, people parent differently. Remarriages: 20% more likely to divorce, risk is greater if both partners remarried.
