Hegemonic: ruling or dominant in a political or social context. Patriarchal dividend: males have a benefit in society by nature of being more male. Idea of a real man" in a given time and place: he possesses power and it met with approval. Men are not only organized hierarchically in relation to women but also with and to each other hierarchy of masculinities. Hegemonic masculinity is not assumed by to be the norm, but it is normative we position ourselves around or in relation to this. What it means to be a man in this culture: to be hyper-masculine, strong, tough. Be a man one of the most destructive sayings in this culture. Men cannot speak about or show their emotions, they bottle it all up. I felt alone the idea of being seen as weak, as a sissy, begins in boyhood and follows men throughout their life: men continuously are trying to prove they aren"t women, feminine or gay.
