Recap: kinsey: truth is better than knowledge; started conversation on sex ed. However, sex ed has often hid truth from young people and framed sex in particular ways. If sex is the quintessential reality of humans, then why are we so afraid/unable/taught not to talk about it. How are gender roles reinforced in sex ed films. What is framed as the necessary reason for teaching sex ed in different time periods. First sex ed class in us was called moral education - 1863. Can map out the progression of sex ed through sex ed films. 1910: huge influx of immigrants into us. Lack of health services; used films to reach people who couldn"t speak. Ww2 dramatically different for sex ed films. Sex hygiene - first sex ed film, ww2; many people were first exposed to sex ed in military training. Women made out to be problem; "dirty woman"; prostitute/bearer of disease. Penicillin invented in 1944, cure for many disease.
