If you know where people fit on maslow"s chart you can better understand where they are coming from and what they are focused on. Physical- thinking about safety needs, factory work, construction. Intrinsic benefits: from within- volunteering for example - you don"t do that for money you do it to help, the strongest motivator. Safety and security- extrinsic (could be a bit intrinsic-if you feel safe) Love and belonging- intrinsic- it is how you feel belonging to something. The most recognized model to date for motivation** 2 ideas- 1) if you reward behaviour you get more of the behaviour you want.
