A process that occurs when one person, group or organizational subunit frustrates the goal attainment of another: five factors, group identification, interdependence, culture, ambiguity, scarce resources. Identification with a particular group or class of people. People develop a more positive view of their own in-group intergroup biases. Interdependence: when individuals or subunits are mutually dependent on each other to accomplish their own goals, necessitates interaction and implies that each party has some power over the other. Culture: when two or more very different cultures develop in an organization, the clash in beliefs and values can result in conflict, also differences in power and status. Ambiguity: ambiguous goals, jurisdictions or performance criteria can lead to conflict. Scarce resources: limited budgets can contribute to conflict. Identification with a particular group can set the stage for (organizational) conflict: people tend to favor their in-group , group success becomes your success, group identification can boost self-esteem one"s group"s successes become one"s own successes.
