What is the purpose of the research paper: demonstrate your understanding of an issue, demonstrate your ability to generate ideas, make intelligent observations. Thesis statement: provide clear and specific statement of main claim, issue, problem, respond to the research question, gives reader a road map for the paper. Research question- that you want to answer- finding the answer to your question. Thesis statement should act as a guideline for effectively communicating your point. State your own opinion on the subject at hand rather then restating the topic. Not limited to a certain amount of points to demonstrate your argument on a certain topic. There is no rule that the thesis statement is limited to one sentence: explain and give evidence, has to be clear and concise. Thesis statement are almost always found in the introduction of your paper: readings will have a clear framework of what will happening.
