Concerned with issues of control, and understanding how capitalist societies are organized (steeves and wasko, 2002 p. 19) Scholars tend to investigate in which media system and practices/ policy either reinforce or challenge existing social class structure. Who owns the media is what scholars look into. Look at how industries are structured or organizing. How ownership structures and advertising influence the nature of media content. What pressures the survey by different economic forces. Cultural studies approaches has more on the content. Political economy examines the interplay of wealth, power, and communication: commodification.
