Document Summary

Classical conditioning(pavlovian conditioning): learning to link two stimuli in a way that helps us anticipate an event(instrumental conditioning) to which we have a reaction. Cognitive learning: acquiring new behaviours and information through observation and information, rather than direct experience. Operant conditioning: changing behaviour choices in response to consequences (response with a certain consequence) Types of learning: classical conditioning: one of two types of associative learning. How it works: after repeated exposure to two stimuli occurring in sequence, we associated those stimuli with each other. Result: our natural response to one stimulus is now triggered by the new, predictive stimulus. Example: see lightning (stimulus 1), hear thunder(stimulus 2); after repetition, we learn to cover our ears to lightning to avoid sound of thunder: operant conditioning: the other type of associative learning. How it works: we learn to associated our response(behaviour) with consequences.
