Diana baumrind: two ways of characterizing parenting behaviour, responsiveness and demandingness. Responsiveness (r: the degree to which a parent responds to a child"s needs in an accepting and supportive way. Demandingness (d: the extent to which a parent expects and demands mature, responsible behaviour. Authoritative (warm but firm: highly aware and responsive to needs, high but appropriate expectations, democratic communication, encourage independent thinking/ behaving, good models very clear but loving, assume responsibility for adolescent"s behaviour, encourage independent thinking and behaviour. Authoritarian (do what i say: don"t consider individual needs/ abilities, high expectations, emphasize obedience to authority, restrictive, expect acceptance of rules/ instructions without question, not encouraging independent thinking/ behaviour. Indulgent (do as you please: overly accepting, passive discipline, much freedom; little discipline, want adolescent to be happy , no shaping or confrontation. Indifferent to needs/ abilities: uninvolved (extremes: neglect, exert minimal time/ effort, no discussion/ involvement, no discipline, parent centered: structured around parents needs/ interests.
