Document Summary
Ws 100 - a: lecture: tuesday, november 14th: Textbook notes: chapter 8 - women and religion: Religion is a powerful source for the subordination of women in society, yet across the years, religion has also been an important source for the feminist movement and other movements for human liberation. In addition, religious belief in the black community rests on a strong faith in justice, fairness and equality. Although religion has been a repressive force in women"s lives, it has also been a source of liberation. Paul tillich defines religion: as the expression of humanity"s ultimate concerns, the articulation of longing for a center of meaning and value and for connection with the power of being. One of the beginning points of the analysis of religion is the fact that, as measured by a variety of indicators, women are more religious than men in us societies.
