Anthro started at the age of exploration which was launched by. Christopher columbus when he came to usa lasted 1942-17th century. Then colonization began and they started colonizing parts trying to civilize these people. Anthro didn"t come forward as a discipline until 1883 when edward. Tylor was appointed to first position in anthro in britain. Armchair anthropologists = a type of approach in studying diff societies where they"d stay at home and use collected diaries, reports, other docs, written by other people who had come in contact with diff non-western people. They"re sitting in their armchairs comparing differences and similarities btwn societies using other people"s docs. Bronislaw malinowski and franz boas = fathers of sociocultural anthro. Went and got firsthand knowledge on some units and kwakwaka"wakw. Anthro. gists use surveys, written docs, historical accounts, and questionnaires as part of research like other social scientists. But they"re unique b/c they also used ethnographic method.
