BIOL 4310 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Chemotherapy, Immune System, Shift Work
Document Summary
Inter-species clocks: host symbiotic relationships theres is a coordinated communication and synchronization between the clocks of the two organisms. Example: gut microbiota (symbiotic bacteria in the intestine) Disrupting the synchronization of the bacterial clock would lead to obesity (mice) If the host is disrupted, it would also disrupt the microbiota and thus leads to obesity. Example: parasites have circadian clocks: synchronization of the parasitic clock with the host clock greater transmission potential and increase in-host survival. Circadian disruption and dysregulation: dysregulation can be done experimentally and environmentally, circadian system controls different systems, therefore any disruption in circadian system would lead to a desregulation in them. But also disruption in some systems such as immune system, endocrine, metabolism and cardiovascular would lead to disrupting the circadian system. Jet lag: internal desynchronization of body clocks, transient cycles are internal desynchronization due to phase shifting as a result of traveling from one place to the other.
