Subgenres: short story: compressed in time, space, setting and action. Things happen very quickly in a very short period of time. (no time to unpack things in detail) : novella: somewhere in the middle of both, novel: things are stressed out over time, space. Connection between prose and fiction: prose is the language of fiction, it"s the way the author writes. There is historical fiction which is based on historical events but writers take licence of historical facts. Fiction does not have to have fully developed characters, there is no depth in those characters. You can have imagery and symbolism in prose narratives and fiction. The unfortunate traveller, a loose series of episodes about a man who travels the english country side.
