She gets upset because her husband flaunts the fact that he can read. The books in her time negate/undermine the fact that women can be good people too. She was married 5 times and on the hunt for a sixth. Prologue suggests that she is wealthy or at least well-to-do. She was 12 when she was first married. Wife of bath loves sex and younger men. There is this question of who"s in charge and who gets their way. There is a close relationship between the wife of bath"s prologue and her tale. Prologue announces that it is about wo that is in mariage (the unhappiness in marriage) but it turns out to be much more than that. Boasts that she always got the better of her husbands, one way or another. It seems that she marries most of her husbands for money but marries the last for love.
