Confidentiality (disclose it) = non-disclosure of private data. Security (protect it) = protection of an asset (such as data or a data centre) from unauthorized access. Ethics = rules of behavior about what is right and wrong. Data integrity = trustworthiness and permanence of data. Rules for collection, use and disclosure and personal health information (phi) Applies to health information custodians (hics) in ontario and their agents (receive phi from hics) Does not apply to organizations that receive data from individuals (e. g. , insurance companies) Hics (usually) have to obtain consent to collect, use and/or disclose phi. Patients can access and request the correction of phi.
