Telecommunications: the electronic transmission of signals for communications. Telecommunications medium: air, wireless, wires (electrons that transmit the information), anything that carries an electronic signal (the environment that carries the signal) Business functions supply chain management use telecommunication and works. You will need the communications capabilities by telecommunications and networks. Computers, telephones, fax, radio sets, tv set. Amplitude height of wave above or below a reference point. Frequency a number of oscillations per time unit. Phase determines the shift in time when wave obtains maximal value. Digital data using digital signals: encoding (using a set of numbers, go back to second lecture) Digital data using analog signals: modulation (add on top of the wave the digital information) Analog data using digital signals: pulse code modulation. Analog data using analog signals: am, fm radio, broadcast television many sources. Modem an analog network is used to transmit digital data. Fax modem transmits images via standard telephone line.
