There were several victories in the disability rights movement: they wanted to get rid of institutional places where people with disabilities live, the us put up an adoption of americans with disability act. Medical model: pathology, disease, diagnosis > personal tragedy. Social model: societal barriers > creates a societal responsibility to address those barriers. Disability sport: it started after wwii as a rehabilitation effort, to get people doing something, first stoke mandeville games, england - 1948, rst international stoke mandeville games, england - 1952. They move with the type of skill, and they look like typically athletic bodies of normal athletes. You see people that you look at that you don"t think are athletes but they might be on a world cup champion power soccer team. The author is trying to portray that people with disabilities are being praised unnecessarily, and are being classi ed as supercrips.
