Sports and socialization -> 3 levels of analysis interactionist, structural, cultural. Sports are sites for socialization experiences rather than causes of specific socialization outcomes. 70% of kids drop out of sports nr. 1 reason is that it stops being fun. Those who stay in sports experience interactions and learn, which they use to create an idea of what the sport should be like, idea of how to treat others (males, females, opponents) Sport is a valuable experience, but the people interacting with make it more valuable. People who choose not to play sports may have different, perhaps better, socialization opportunities in other pursuits. Gender, structure and culture: how children do gender when they interact or perform. Girls dancing round barbie, boys disrupting the activity. Through experiences we learn what boys should do and girls too: how the structured gender regime constraints and enables the actions of children and parents.
