KINE 2050 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Sagittal Plane, Exocrine Gland, Endocrine Gland
Document Summary
The plane that divides the body into a front and back part is called the coronal plane or frontal plane (dividing it into a front portion and a posterior portion) If he described an arm swinging it would still be in the sagittal plane (front to back) If kicking a ball the leg is still going to swing through the sagittal plane. Anatomical position directions: anterior means towards the front, posterior means towards the back. When we look at relative position of muscle from the anatomical position some of them may be anterior towards the front and some of them may be posterior. When you look at nerves, arteries, veins, organs some may be anterior, some may be posterior to each other: superior means towards the cranium. Sometimes this is called cranium or cranial towards the head. Inferior will sometimes be caudal towards the tail so that would be the down: medial means towards the midline of the body.
