How is science shaped by society, its usually how science shapes society but we are interested in studying the opposite. Einstein"s theory of relativity will be juxtaposed on another theory which was niels. Bohr theory of the atomic structure and quantum theory. Einstein grew up in a society dominated by machines. The ether: the most important research topic in late classical physics. (physics before relatively and quantum theory) why was it so important? it was seen as the essential proponent about how light moves and travels through space. There was a long standing debate about whether light was a wave or a series of particles. Newton believed it was a series of particles, but research after newton suggested it was a wave. waves have a strange property called constructive or deconstructive interference. Light waves that are opposite each other can cancel each other out, that"s why one gets rings because of destructive interference.
